What was your major your freshman year: Double majored in Chemical Engineering & French
I took Chemistry and French because I was reasonably good at it in high school. It turns out I was NOT good at it in college. My double major required several hours of class work, homework and lab work and it proved to be too much. I became overwhelmed and disinterested in school. Luckily my mother helped me to pivot to architecture, which she recognized that I enjoyed in high school. Not only did I change my
I was the president of the American Institute of Architecture Students and played rugby for the Maryland Stingers senior women’s club. I also studied abroad in France and Australia.
At my 1st school I was the manager in the dishroom for Food Services. At my second school, I babysat for a family friend, tutored high school students math and worked as a tutor for the Howard Math Department.

Tell us a little bit about your job & what you do
I assist the existing Facilities Maintenance team at US embassies with the transition to newly constructed embassies.
How did your time in college prepare you for your career?
While studying architecture, I knew that design was not in my future. My Building Construction class and professor really resonated with me. Architecture is a degree in problem solving and as a Construction Manager, I get to solve construction problems every day.
What do you like to do in your free time
I have a non-profit that establishes rugby teams at HBCUs. This year, we started a men’s and womens team at Howard University. Next year we will establish two teams at Morgan State University. I’m also an avid photographer. My work has been displayed at several galleries in the Houston area.
Advice:
What advice would you give to a high school junior applying to college
Make sure that you do college campus visits. I spent one day on Emory’s campus and I knew that the school wasn’t for me! I also recommend having a safety school. I put all of my effort into early admission to Brown University and got waitlisted and then rejected. My mother chose my safety school and I didn’t really know much about Tufts University when I arrived on campus.
What advice would you give to a high school senior who is unsure of what to major in
Don’t stress out about your major. It’s wise to choose a course that you enjoyed or excelled at in high school but everything could change once you start actually taking college courses. And that’s OK!
